why hire a doula?
New mothers need mothering. They need encouragement, gentle guidance, empathy, and unwavering support. They need access to evidence-based, bias-free information, and to be reminded that all of it aside, their instincts are often bang-on. They need the space to heal—physically, mentally and emotionally—from childbirth, and they need time and reassurance as they learn to care for their baby and transition to their new role as mothers.
(doulas do that.)
maternal mental health matters
“Research has shown that continuous social support throughout the first year postpartum has tremendous benefits on the overall health and wellness of new mothers, and reduces the risk factors for developing a postpartum mood disorder such as Postpartum Depression (PPD) or Anxiety. Currently, PPD affects 1 in 5 Canadian moms each year making it the number one birth complication to date.”
We believe nurturing the mental, emotional, and holistic wellness of mothers is critical to fostering the foundation of confidence, adaptability, and resilience that is necessary for meeting the demands of motherhood.
(yep, doulas do that.)
postpartum support is essential
The first postpartum year is a time of immense transformation, the effects of which—studies have shown—have a tremendous and lasting impact on the longterm wellbeing of both mother and child. We owe it to mothers, their babies, their families and communities, to provide robust postpartum support for not only the marked benefits on an individual scale, but the doubtless ripple effect on the health of our society as a whole.
